Current settings

The output motor current is set according to VREF.  VRef is measured Viewed from the top

  • Rotate the potentiometer clockwise to decrease vRef & anticlockwise to increase vRef
  • Be gentle, it is a small surface mounted potentiometer attached to the underside of the PCB substrate so be nice to it. Use the right size small slotted screwdriver, if you do so, no downward force is necessary, otherwise you may separate the potentiometer from the module
  • Precautions:
    • Adjust without the motors connected to avoid potential damage to your motors (once you have your desired settings then connect your motors)
    • If your motors run hot afterwards, recheck your calculations, dial it back..

The sense resistors on these modules are R220 = 0.22 ohms so the formula for setting vRef per the datasheet is:

  • I = (VREF / 5) / 0.22
  • so: VREF = I * 1.1
  • Example: if your desired current is 1.2A:
    • VRef = 1.2 * 1.1 = 1.32V
